EVENT CANCELED: Caltech Associates Westside Luncheon: Understanding Autism

with Sarkis Mazmanian, Luis B. and Nelly Soux Professor of Microbiology

Due to the recent fires in Los Angeles and poor air quality in the Bel Air area, this event has been canceled and postponed to early next year. Please contact the Caltech Associates with any questions at (626) 395-6392.

12:00 p.m. Reception
12:45 p.m. Luncheon and program

This Westside luncheon is generously hosted by Caltech Trustee Fred (BS '62) and Joyce Hameetman, Caltech Associates Board Member. Microbes inhabit just about every part of the human body, and trillions of these bacteria are found within the gastrointestinal tract. It is no surprise that these microbes influence digestion, allergies, and metabolism, but their reach may extend further, into the brain. Learn how Professor Mazmanian is investigating this connection and how the ecosystem of bacteria in our gut may play a role in autism, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and other conditions.
